How do I turn off Windows 10 suggested apps?

Windows 10 suggested apps
Start selling: there's even adverts in Windows

Fed up of seeing ‘suggested apps’ in the Windows 10 Start menu? We feel your pain. Before long, they’re going to be printing classified ads on digital toilet paper.

Thankfully, it’s dead easy to put a stop to Windows 10’s hard sell.

Type ‘settings’ in the Windows 10 search box in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, and then open the Settings app. In the search box of the Settings app itself, type ‘start menu’ and you should see Start Settings appear in the list of results.

Open Start Settings, and then about three-quarters of the way down the page you will find a setting called ‘Occasionally show suggestions in Start’. (Don’t you love the way Microsoft is trying to downplay this irritation? We’re only going to get on your tits occasionally. Honest!)

Flick that setting off and your Start Menu will be free of Microsoft’s thinly-veiled ads.
