Amazon Alexa

Alexa, why don’t we laugh anymore?

Alexa laughing
Alexa: not a dry eye in the house

Do you remember how it was in the early days, Alexa? When we used to talk to one another for hours on end. When you’d tell me jokes. When you used to laugh without me even having to say anything. Good times.

OK, the laughing thing was a bit weird. I mean, I love a good laugh as much as the next fella, but when I’m sitting there talking to Ken next door about how his labrador was put down last week and you suddenly burst into a fit of giggles… well, it’s awkward.

I don’t know what got into you, at times. There’s certainly nothing funny about Mrs Brown’s Boys, but it didn’t stop you cracking up halfway through it.

Now it seems the laughter’s stopped. I don’t hear you giggling to yourself during Thought For The Day, or cracking up at three o’clock in the morning, waking the kids up and giving them nightmares for the next fortnight. We just don’t laugh anymore.

What’s happened to us, Alexa? Is it you or is it me?

Oh, it’s you.
