Once you’ve started using an Echo device, it’s difficult to stop: “Alexa, what’s the capital of Liechtenstein?” “Alexa, play Simply Red.” “Alexa, tell me about the movie Sharknado 5: Global Swarming.” However, many people aren’t aware that a full record of your conversations with Alexa is kept on the app – complete with cringe-inducing voice recordings.
Luckily, deleting your Alexa voice recordings is simplicity itself. Here’s how to do it.
Delete Alexa voice recordings
Before you begin, keep in mind that Alexa uses previous recordings to improve its understanding of, well, you. If you still want to continue, open the Alexa app and click on the Settings cog. Scroll down and tap the History option, which will bring up a list of all of your previous requests.
If you tap on one of the items, you’ll be taken to a page where you can listen to your own dulcet tones and see what Alexa said in reply.
To delete an individual command, simply tap the large “Delete voice recording” button shown in the screenshot above. And, hey presto, your shameful ignorance of Liechtensteiner (Liechtensteinian? Liechtensteinese?) geography will remain a secret.
For a more nuclear approach, you’ll have to fire up your browser. Head to this page of the Amazon website, select “Your devices”, click on the Alexa device you want to wipe, click on “Manage voice recordings” and, finally, delete everything.
