Nuisance “I’ve heard you’ve been in a car crash” calls still plague our lives, but it’s not only our ambulance-chasing friends you might want to block. Even known acquaintances can get on your nerves so much that you want to block all their calls (not you, mum). So how do you block a number on Samsung mobiles?
Block a number on Samsung mobiles
There are two ways to block a number. When you receive a call from a number that’s NOT in your address book, you should see an option to Block Number appear on your screen while the phone is ringing.
That’s handy if you keep getting nuisance calls from the same number, but more often than not, you won’t know whether you want to block a number until you’ve actually spoken to the person/automated bot on the other end.
To block a number after the event:
- Open the phone app
- Click on the Recents tab at the top of the screen
- Find the number you wish to block and click on the little head icon next to the number
- Click Block number at the bottom of the screen
If the number is one of those ambulance-chasers or other marketing nuisance calls, instead of just blocking the number you can click the three dots at the top of the screen and select Report Number.
This allows you to fill in a brief report about the type of caller which is then added to Samsung’s spam calling system, meaning you and others are more likely to be warned in future of nuisance callers. It will flash up a warning on the screen when the phone rings from that number, allowing you to dismiss the call without answering it. You can also block a number at the end of the reporting process.
If it’s a known contact you’ve fallen out with and want to block their calls, open the Phone app again, click on Contacts, click on the letter icon or photo next to the contact’s name to open their contact card, and press the three dots at the top of the screen. Then select Block contact.
If you decide you want to let someone off the naughty step and unblock a number, open the Phone app, click the three dots at the top of the screen and click Settings. Scroll down until you find Block numbers and the list of barred callers will appear. Click on the minus sign to remove the block on that number.
