Sharper stadiums: Amazon is streaming Premier League matches in 4K

I was watching the Premier League football on Amazon Prime Video last night and was struck by how sharp the picture was. I’m used to streaming football on Sky and BT, neither of which stream at anything greater than HD, but this picture looked sharper. My new glasses are clearly working as the optician intended, as Amazon Help subsequently confirmed in a tweet to me that certain games are being streamed in 4K – and without extra charge. It truly is Christmas.

So, if you fancy watching a festive Premier League game in the sharpest possible detail, you might be wondering which of the Amazon Premier League games are in 4K. Here is the full list:

Amazon’s 4K Premier League fixtures

  • Arsenal v Southampton, 6pm GMT on Wednesday 16th December
  • Leicester City v Everton, 6pm on Wednesday 16th December
  • Leeds United v Newcastle United, 6pm on Wednesday 16th December
  • West Ham United v Crystal Palace, 6pm on Wednesday 16th December
  • Fulham v Brighton & Hove Albion, 8pm on Wednesday 16th December
  • Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur, 8pm on Wednesday 16th December*
  • Aston Villa v Burnley, 6pm on Thursday 17th December
  • Sheffield United v Manchester United, 8pm on Thursday 17th December*
  • Southampton v Manchester City, 3pm on Saturday 19th December*
  • Crystal Palace v Leicester City, 3pm on Monday 28th December
  • Chelsea v Aston Villa, 5:30pm on Monday 28th December

The fixtures marked with an asterisk (*) also have Dolby Atmos sound for those with fancy sound systems.

Note that if you don’t have a 4K television, you’ll still be able to watch the games, they just won’t be streamed at the maximum resolution.
