Why is my Blink doorbell not ringing on Alexa?

Blink Video Doorbell

One of the great features of the Blink video doorbell is that you can get announcements on your Alexa devices. Simply enable the Blink skill, and all your Amazon Echo speakers will alert you when someone’s at the door. Well, that’s the theory, but you may find that your Blink doorbell is not ringing on Alexa. Let’s take a look at why that may be.

Why don’t any of my Alexa speakers make an announcement?

If none of your Echo devices are yelling when the doorbell rings, it’s worth checking that you have set up the Blink skill in the Alexa app.

If you’ve enabled the Blink skill but still have issues, make sure you’ve selected the required announcements in the Alexa app.

To do this, first open the Alexa app on your phone or tablet and select the Devices icon from the bottom menu. Now tap on All Devices and select your Blink video doorbell from the list.

In the Settings option for your doorbell, check that the Doorbell Press Announcements toggle switch is on, as shown in the screenshot below.

You can also enable Motion Announcements, which will alert you when the doorbell detects movement, rather than when someone rings the doorbell.

Only some of my Alexas work with the Blink doorbell?

If you’re happy that you’ve enabled the Blink skill, but you’re only getting notifications from some of your Echo devices, then it’s worth checking that you’ve selected all of your devices in the Alexa app. To do so, first open the Alexa app on your phone or tablet and select the Devices icon from the bottom menu. Now tap on All Devices and select your Blink Video DoorBell from the list.

In the Settings option for your doorbell, tap on Announcement devices to list your different Alexas. To get notifications across all your devices, you should have a tick next to all of them. If they don’t, tap the ones without a tick to activate announcements on that device.

My Blink doorbell is still not ringing on some Alexa speakers!

If you’re still having problems getting all of your devices to work with your Blink doorbell, the next thing you should check is that all your Alexas are on the same Amazon account. You can do this quickly by asking each device, “Alexa, identify account”.

The reason to check is that doorbell announcements only work on the last account to which you connected the Blink skill. So if you have your devices on different Amazon accounts, you can get around this problem by enabling Amazon Household.

If you’re unfamiliar with Amazon Household, it allows you to share Prime benefits and digital content with others. It also lets you link your video doorbell to other accounts, allowing all your Echos to play doorbell notifications.

To do this, you first choose who will enable the Blink skill in the Alexa app and set it up. (If you’ve already enabled the skill on other accounts, disable it, as you only need it on one.)

After configuring the main account and confirming that the doorbell announcements work on those devices, you can now create your Amazon Household.

Amazon Household

Once you’ve created your Amazon Household, your Blink video doorbell should appear in the Alexa app of all your Amazon accounts and allow you to configure it as needed.

Oh, and when someone rings the bell, all of your Echo devices should now shout at you in unison!
