Which iPhone do I have? Check the model number

If you turn your phone over, on the back, in small print, you should find a model number. It will say Model: A#### (i.e. the letter A followed by four numbers).

If you can’t find it, then your phone is likely an iPhone 8 or later (that’s when they removed the model number from the back of the phone). Jump past this section to read our further advice on how to determine the precise model you own.

If you do see a model number, use the following table to determine which iPhone you have:

Which iPhone do I have? Check the settings

If you’re using iOS 10.3 or above, you can check your iPhone’s model in settings:

  • Head into Settings
  • At the top is your Apple ID and profile photo. Click on this
  • Scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see a list of all your Apple devices. The top one should be your phone and that includes the model:

But, but…

If you don’t have a model number on the back and you’re using a version of iOS older than 10.3, you’re out of luck here – it’s really time to think about upgrading that OS.
