Among Us Not Working? Here’s What You Need to Know

Among Us is the fantastically popular MMO of suspicion and murder. Nice. It’s cartoon graphics make it extremely attractive to younger audiences, but recent changes mean that the game no longer plays on older devices. Here’s what you need to know if Among Us is not working.

Why is Among Us not working?

The developers of Among Us, Innersloth, are bringing new features to the game. They stated back in March 2023, that the downside is that the requirements for Among Us running on mobile devices would change.

From 15 May 2023, any Android device must have over 2.1GB of RAM and be running Android 6.0. On Apple devices, iPhones will need to run iOS 13 and iPads should be on iPadOS 13. 

Once Among Us updates, mobile devices that no longer hit these requirements will be unable to play the game.

How do I know if my mobile can’t play Among Us?

The game will tell you. Among Us has a regular update cycle and prohibits gameplay between devices with mis-matched versions of the software. You’ll know pretty quickly if Among Us is not working.

As a rough guide, the Apple devices which cannot run iOS 13 are the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPod Touch (6th generation), iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3 and iPad Air 1.

There are too many Android devices to list, but version 6, Marshmallow, was released in 2015, so the devices which cannot upgrade to it are quite old.

Can I upgrade my mobile so it can run Among Us?

Hardware upgrades on mobile devices are all but impossible. However, it could be that your mobile has enough processing grunt, but its software is out of date. Check the Settings on your devices to see if there is upgrade available for your device which may keep the game alive.

Many kids play Among Us on older devices which have been passed down. If the restrictions have scuppered the gameplay for someone you know, then remember that Among Us’s requirements are still low by modern standards. A refurbished or reconditioned device could be the cheapest way to get them back online, hunting for the imposter….

It’s also worth noting that Among Us in the Microsoft Store, meaning you should be able to run it on any Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC you have to hand.
